Do You Need Someone to Read You a Bedtime Story?

I have had trouble sleeping this past year as a result of the witch’s brew of hormonal changes, public unrest and the global pandemic. The one thing I know will help me fall asleep is to have someone read to me. My husband reads to me from time to time, but he finds having a sleeping, snoring audience to be somewhat unsatisfying. When I mentioned this to a friend she said, “You have to listen to Nothing Much Happens!”

I can’t say how much I love this podcast which is billed as ‘Bedtime stories for grown-ups.’ Kathy Nicolai’s voice is calm and pleasing to listen to as she takes you on daily non-adventures walking in the woods, visiting a farmer’s market to buy ingredients for soup, and sitting next to a fireplace in a ski chalet. All of her stories are interesting enough to hook me and ordinary enough to allow me to drift off. As she often says, ‘Busy minds need a place to rest.’ Her podcast is that place.

Nicolai has also authored a companion book for her popular podcast which has many of her stories, meditations, whimsical illustrations and recipes (which sound delicious whenever I’m awake to hear them.)

Nothing Much Happens is available on Apple, Stitcher, Spotify, Google and is part of the Curious Cast family. You can visit the Nothing Much Happens website here.
