Accept the Sunflowers

I’ve had tickets to attend the VanGogh Immersive Experience for months. I’d heard it was amazing and I looked forward to the possibility of getting out of the house and doing something that would inspire me.

Well, things didn’t go as planned.

First the exhibit hall changed their hours, then there was a smell permeating the hall at the start time and they had delay opening for another hour. The girl at the door was very apologetic about both delays and said ,“Can I offer you a sunflower for your trouble?”

Bang! It hit me.

I could choose to make this day about delay and disappointment or I could accept the sunflower. The unexpected gift in the midst of life’s difficult moments. Isn’t every day like this? We think we know what’s going happen, then when it doesn’t we’re angry and disappointed. I wonder how often I’ve been offered virtual sunflowers and missed them because I was too attached to my expectations.

So, this is my slogan for living in difficult times: Accept the Sunflowers.

PS. The exhibit was great and worth the extra two hour wait, because sometimes life disappoints but it can still be amazing.
